The Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH) conducted the first session of the Capacity Enhancement of Medical Equipment Technical Services (CEOMETS)training from July 27 to 31, 2026, at the National Center for Communicable Diseases (NCCD)in Mongolia.

The training brought together biomedical engineers from the NCCD and 15 national and regional healthcare institutions across Mongolia. Through lectures and hands-on practice, participants strengthened their knowledge and skills in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of cold chain equipment essential for the safe storage of vaccines and pharmaceuticals.

CEOMETS is a knowledge-sharing initiative led by members of the KOFIH Global Alumni (KGA)who have completed the Lee Jong-wook Fellowship Program’s biomedical engineering short-term or degree courses. The program enables alumni to transfer the knowledge and practical skills acquired in Korea to fellow biomedical engineers in their home countries. By allowing local alumni to design and deliver the training, CEOMETS aims to expand technical expertise in medical equipment management and support the sustainable development of Mongolia’s biomedical engineering workforce.

The Mongolia CEOMETS program consists of three training sessions. The second session will be held from August 20 to 25at the Mongolian University of Science and Technology (MUST), focusing on quality assurance for medical equipment. The third session is scheduled for September 7 to 10at Shastin Central Hospital, where participants will receive training on the management and maintenance of interventional medical equipment.

KOFIH and the Ministry of Health of Mongolia have established a five-year cooperation framework (2026–2030) in the field of biomedical engineering. Under this partnership, the two organizations will work together to strengthen training for biomedical engineers in public healthcare facilities, improve medical equipment management systems, develop maintenance expertise, and support the establishment of sustainable healthcare technology management systems.

KOFIH has previously implemented CEOMETS programs in Lao PDR, Ghana, and Tanzania, expanding the initiative into broader national efforts to strengthen medical equipment management systems. Through continued collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Mongolia and local partner institutions, KOFIH will support the development of Mongolia’s biomedical engineering workforce in line with the country's Vision 2050policy for healthcare modernization and contribute to the sustainable operation of medical equipment in public healthcare facilities.
