About KOFIHBackground
01To take greater roles and responsibility
in the international community
KOFIH aims to contribute to roles and responsibility commensurate with Korea's international status. Korea has achieved external growth to become one of the top 10 economies with a per capita income of around 30,000 USD, and is the only country to have transitioned from an aid recipient to a donor.
In addition, Korea's elevated status in the international community can be represented through the appointments of World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Dr. Lee Jong-wook and United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. In line with this, we must fulfill our roles in the international community by continuing to expand our healthcare support.
02Leading organization dedicated
to healthcare assistance
to developing countries and North Korea
KOFIH has a mission to lead the development of healthcare in the international community. It is still common in some countries that the lack of timely access to basic essential healthcare services leads to unhealthy lives. Also, the infant mortality rate in North Korea, geographically closest to South Korea, is seven times higher than that of South Korea. Through specialized and systematic healthcare support for developing countries and North Korea, KOFIH aims to realize universal health coverage and establish itself as an organization specialized in development cooperation and global health.
03Globalization of local health problems
KOFIH aims to respond to the global trend of solving healthcare problems in developing countries in cooperation with the international community. Local healthcare problems are now expanding into global issues affecting survival of us all. HIV/AIDS, SARS, and other infectious diseases such as malaria and typhoid are serious diseases that need to be addressed collectively, not just by the countries where they occur.
04Humanitarian assistance
to vulnerable populations across the globe
KOFIH also seeks to cooperate and support, in various ways, to solve migrant health issues. KOFIH aims to ensure the health rights of vulnerable groups by supporting overseas Koreans who have been forced to move abroad due to historical circumstances and need support from their home countries, and migrant workers who are in the blind spots of domestic healthcare. In addition, KOFIH actively participates in solving global issues and realizes humanitarian values through the activities of the Korea Disaster Relief Team (KDRT) in the event of disasters.
