About KOFIHOn Wednesday, July 23, 2025, the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH) signed a “Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)” with the National Cancer Center (located in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do) at the Center's Screening Building to strengthen cooperation in the field of global health.
This agreement was established to build a more systematic and sustainable partnership, based on the accumulated experience and collaborative achievements of both institutions in strengthening cancer prevention and management capabilities in low- and middle-income countries.
Notably, the “National Cancer Management and Capacity Building in Uganda,” led by KOFIH and implemented by the NCC, stands as a representative example of their collaboration. It contributes to improving the local healthcare system through activities such as monitoring a cervical cancer screening pilot project, training local medical personnel, and inviting high-level policy officials for training.
Through this agreement, the two institutions plan to strengthen cooperation in various areas, including: ▲ joint planning and implementation of global health development cooperation projects; ▲ training and education of cancer-related professionals; ▲ support for cancer prevention and early detection projects targeting low- and middle-income countries; ▲ cancer management support for North Korea and overseas Koreans; and ▲ technical advisory services and information sharing.
President Il-Soo Ha of the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare stated, “This agreement is highly meaningful as our cooperation with the National Cancer Center is yielding tangible results in various settings, including Uganda,” adding, “We expect it to serve as a turning point for strategic collaboration aimed at alleviating the global cancer burden and resolving health inequalities.”
President Yang Han-Kwang of the National Cancer Center remarked, “Building on the experience and expertise accumulated as a specialized cancer institution, we have consistently endeavored to strengthen cancer management capabilities in developing countries.” He conveyed, “Through this agreement, we will collaborate even more closely with KOFIH to contribute to creating an environment where cancer prevention and treatment are accessible everywhere in the world.”
The Korea Foundation for International Healthcare plans to continue taking the lead in strengthening global health governance and fostering an ecosystem for global health cooperation through close collaboration with the National Cancer Center.
