[KOFIH News] Opening Ceremony of Abutia Health Center and Medical Engineering Workshop in Volta, Ghana

□ The opening ceremony of the KOFIH-supported Abutia-Kpota Model Health Center and the Biomedical Engineering Workshop in Volta Region was successfully held on February 24, 2025. The ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Ghana, the Minister of Health, the Central Health Director, the Governor of Volta, the Regional Health Directorate, and community leaders.


□ KOFIH officially opened its Ghana office in April 2014 and has been implementing maternal and child health strengthening projects in the Volta and Oti regions and capacity building projects for the Ghana Health Insurance System, and celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2024.


□ As part of the KOFIH Ghana Office's 10th anniversary celebration, KOFIH, in consultation with the Ghana Ministry of Health, has decided to build a model health center in Abutia Kpota village in the Ho West District of the Volta Region of Ghana through the ongoing “Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Promotion in Volta & Oti Region, Ghana, Second phase,” which will provide essential health services to seven villages and communities in the Abutia District of the Volta Region.


□ In addition, through KOFIH's project titled “Strengthening Management System of Medical Equipment in Ghana”, KOFIH implemented △ the construction of medical engineering workshops in Accra and Volta, △ procurement of medical equipment, △ invitational training for five Ministry of Health and Health Service practitioners, and △ local training for 40 medical engineers across Ghana in 2014.


□ KOFIH is committed to contributing to the improvement of Ghana's healthcare system by enhancing the ownership of local health authorities and Community Health Management Committees (CHMCs) of health facilities and strengthening partnerships with the Ministry of Health, the Central Health Service, and local health authorities. The opening ceremony highlighted the contribution and recognition of the Korean government's ODA to the achievement of the SDGs to partner governments and officials, and emphasized the importance of maintaining close cooperation in the future.
