About KOFIH□ As part of the Overseas Emergency Relief effort, the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH) visited the Federated States of Micronesia (Chuuk) from 17 to 25 August in order to train civilian members of the Korea Disaster Relief Team (KDRT) as WHO/EMT experts and support them to enter international organizations.
□ The KDRT mentors (Kim Hyung-tae and Jang Jae-won, civilian members of the KDRT medical team) and KOFIH staff responsible for overseas disaster emergency relief (Deputy Director Park Jin-ha) conducted three lecture sessions (△ Clinical Overview △ Logistics & WASH △ Emergency Medical Team Coordination at Disaster Sites). In addition, KDRT members participated in several mentoring activities such as demonstrating the use of WASH kits made according to WHO/EMT standards, and two members made a video of the week-long training course and screened it at the completion ceremony, which was well received by the Micronesian EMT team and WHO mentors.
□ The trip left the KDRT medical team with know-how on EMT guidelines* curriculum and teaching methods, and implications and future plans for how to support KDRT medical team to be part of a network of WHO/WPRO experts and strengthen health systems in Pacific Island countries.
