Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH; President Kim Chang-yup) conducted a seminar on “Post-COVID-19 Era” and “Korea’s Challenges for International Health” to celebrate the opening of its new building (Health and Welfare Administration Town, Gwangjin-gu) on January 13, Thursday.
□ KOFIH prepared the seminar to lead the proposal regarding directions and policies of international healthcare to alleviate health inequity.
□ The seminar included a congratulatory message by Jun Hye-sook, member of Democratic Party of Korea (DPK); an opening speech by Minister Kwon Deok-cheol of Health and Welfare; a congratulatory message by Chairman Kim Min-seok of the National Health & Welfare Committee; as well as presentations and discussions on different topics by experts in the field.
○ Experts working for the international healthcare discussed the directions of Korea’s international healthcare and KOFIH’s roles through the presentation and panel discussion.
□ President Kim Chang-yup of KOFIH said with emphasis during the presentation, “It is clear that, in the current global healthcare situation, the COVID-19 and the existing healthcare issues have revealed limitations in international healthcare governance and nation-centered approaches.” President Kim emphasized that “Therefore, KOFIH must play crucial roles as a specialized foundation that supports setting the new normal that people can empathize with by convening and distinguishing what KOFIH CAN do and what we MUST do.” “We must actively work hard through cooperation with the public, academia, governments, and various domestic and international institutes,” he added.
□ The seminar was streamed online in real time on KOFIH’s YouTube channel to help anyone interested in official development assistance (ODA) for healthcare to join.
