The Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH, President Choo MooJin), Korea Forest Service (KFS, Minister Park Chong-Ho), and Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO, Executive Director Chencho Norbu) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on August 11 (Tue.) at AFoCO Secretariat located in Yeouido, Seoul for “mutual cooperation for sustainable development between healthcare and forestry”.
This MOU centers on ▲laying the foundation for integrated international cooperation projects in the healthcare and forestry sectors, ▲having joint studies and research, exchanges, and advisory activities, and ▲sharing information between the two fields.
With growing attention going to the government’s Green New Deal Policy designed to fight against the climate change and environment challenges, there is an increasing need to preemptively respond to climate change and forest degradation. With the integrated approach to these issues from the perspective of the healthcare sector, KOFIH seeks to forge a new collaborative network for global cooperation and spread more effective Korean-type infectious control and prevention model to partner countries.
During the signing ceremony, President Choo of KOFIH said “I sincerely hope this MOU signed today will serve as a foundation to bolster mutual cooperation in Korea’s healthcare and forestry fields and contribute to sustainable development of forestry and healthcare sectors in partner countries”, adding that “For successful implementation of the MOU, the three parties will work together and put more effort to enhance effectiveness of international development cooperation”.
Minister Park Chong-Ho of KFS said “As Korea’s responses against COVID-19 are positively evaluated by the international community, I expect this MOU to create greater synergy thanks to the integration of forestry working to tackle climate change with the healthcare sector encompassing Korean-type infectious control and prevention works”.
Based on the agreement, KOFIH, KFS, and AFoCO plan to explore various ways for cooperation such as information sharing and exchanges.
