On June 12, 2025, the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare held an action plan presentation for the ‘LEE Jong-wook Fellowship Program’ Health Financing and Economics Course at the Atrium on the 6th floor of KOFIH.

A total of 15 fellows participated in the course, including 6 from Ghana, 3 from Ethiopia, 3 from Cambodia, and 3 from Tanzania. The fellows, who are health ministry officials from each of the partner countries, experienced Korea's diverse health-related systems in depth under the expert guidance of Professor Soonman Kwon of Seoul National University's Center for Industry-University Cooperation, and greatly enhanced their ability to apply them to their own contexts.

After successfully completing the two-month program, the 15 trainees had the opportunity to present their action plans that can be applied to their home countries. Touch Nimol (Cambodia) was selected as the top performer for the presentation titled “Improving the Quality and Efficiency of Healthcare Claims Review in Cambodia”, and Mahlet Eyob Haile (Ethiopia) was selected as the best performer for the presentation “Ethiopian Health Insurance Service Claim Management Leo - Implementation of standardized claim request format for tertiary care hospitals”.

Touch Nimol (Cambodia), the top performer, presented plans to strengthen the electronic system, streamline the billing process, and reorganize the medical claims review process in stages. In particular, Nimol presented the goal to contribute to the achievement of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Cambodia by systematically automating the current manual system, effectively detecting false claims, and establishing a comprehensive reporting system.

After the presentation, the fellows will return to their home countries with their specific action plans and begin new challenges. It is expected that the health systems of the partner countries will be further developed through the Dr LEE Jong-wook Fellowship Program Course for Health Financing and Economics, and that these changes will be extended to deeper collaboration in the future. The Korea Foundation for International Healthcare will continue to share information and collaborate to promote the development of healthcare in vulnerable countries.
